The feature-length DEFA documentary "Living in Wittstock" was meant to be the last in a series of observations in Wittstock an der Dosse (GDR). Volker Koepp planed to conclude his portrait of the industrial development of the town and its state-owned knitwear fabrication with this film, consisting of material from previous short documentaries and new material. He however returned after the fall of the wall. The main focus of the film are three protagonists working at the factory, Edith, Renate and Stupsy. Volker Koepp accompanies their everyday life, portraying their different characters, the experienced Renate, the lively and sometimes melancholic Stupsy and the sage Edith. Their fortunes are told in poetic images over a period of ten years making the film a reflection on life, dreams and desires.
